  1. Past hour
  2. He’s being honest and not making excuses for his failure.
  3. So i picked 2 out of 8 first round winners, but luckily they are also the 2 teams I picked to make the Finals. Lol.
  4. Well, my first round predictions were terrible. I went 3-5 on series results. So I am revising my predictions for the second round. Let's see if I do any better. Second Round Predictions: West: San Jose vs. Colorado: Colorado in 6. St Louis vs, Dallas: St Louis in 7 East : Boston Vs. Columbus: Columbus in 6 New York vs. Carolina: Carolina in 7. Let's see how badly I mess up this round. LOL
  5. The point is that Eakins isn't too proud to have learned from his mistakes. One of the big ones he made was alienating everyone around him by trying to revolutionize the team culture overnight. When it didn't work, he had no allies and a bunch of players who didn't respect him. It sounds like he understands that and knows that approach won't work. I've said all along that I don't know if he's the right man for the job. It's not like he's done wonders with the Gulls. The players love him, but the actual performance has been good, not great. I'm confident he'll be better than Carlyle, and I'd rather give Eakins a shot than a retread like Yeo. However, I think there are almost certainly going to be better candidates available. Those candidates might carry more risk because they're unknowns while Eakins is a known quantity. I'm not going to post a long string of censored expletives if he's hired (like I did when Carlyle was rehired), but I'll be a little bummed the Ducks didn't take a chance on an up-and-comer with a higher coaching ceiling. Eakins seems like a good guy though, and there's no denying the current group of youngsters really likes playing for him.
  6. I didn’t say a major couldn’t be called for a crosscheck, but it’s not based on the eventual result. Unlike the USA hockey rules, the NHL rule book, that I quoted, says nothing about whether the crosscheck results in injury in determining whether it should be a major penallty, only the severity of the contact. The ref simply blew the call. He told Gallant that the crosscheck was to the head, which it clearly was not.

  8. Yes, a major can be called for a crosscheck. And it elevates to a major due to????? Injury and/or intent historically. It doesn't have to be intentional, either. If it starts a problem (knocks Pavs off balance for this one) it falls into the same group of careless penalties and suspensions for head shots. You're stopping your judgement at the crosscheck. The refs are judging all the way through to the eventual result. That's why you stood at 2 and they go to 5.
  9. I didn't want to bring up Parros. The guy could barely skate at first. And now he thinks he's the People's Tribune with player safety. Screw that guy. [edit] Yeah, still bitter.
  10. Undeniably. I tend to characterize a “goon” as a player with little or no real hockey skill, so I don’t think Prongs and Pears are goons. They’re just dirty players. Parros and Shawn Thornton were goons. That said, I wasn’t pointing fingers. I was just responding to a comment that the Sharks haven’t had goons and had never done anything crazy bad.
  11. @TheAthleticLA Dallas Eakins heard the criticism as the Oilers coach: "Instead of going in and planting the seeds and letting the culture develop ... I went in there with a fraking blowtorch. And I burned it down." @icemancometh on Eakins' possible next chance.
  12. Ducks have iced their own share of goons. Pronger "stomping" on Kesler. Perry could be considered a goon depending on who you talk too. I think the Ducks have always employed "pests". Like the one year with Perry, Laperriere, and Ruutu. It always rubbed me the wrong way the NHL banished Scott. Never liked him up until the ASG incident. But damn did the League do him dirty when you have total asshats like Wilson running around.
  13. Not too sure about that. All of the top seeds apart from Boston have been eliminated. A lot will depend on jones but if he plays well I can see them go all the way.
  14. If you think that one is bad, get a load of how dumb I look now after posting this earlier in the week oof. I'll show myself out

    playoff game...

Pavelski seemed to be trying to draw the cross checking penalty, got crossed up, then levered to the ice head first when his momentum took him over the knee of that other guy. Maybe Pavelski was just trying to keep his face away from the stick. I do think it was a harsh call. The refs seemed to take a look at what was happening after and then reacted, though I don't see the timeline that well. The ref can make the call based on the severity of the contact of the cross check... so you can get a major by cross checking with little force but at the right time to, for example, push the opponent's face into the pipes. The severity of the contact isn't just about how hard the player is cross checked, and it's not about an unintended result per se, but it's not a narrow concept I don't think. I'm not sure what the ref saw or didn't see, but based on the replay, I think the 2min was inevitable, at least because of the reaction of Pavelski before he hit the ice, and the 5 minute was warranted if the ref thought the check was meant to bend him over backwards over the other player and smash him into the ice. The problem is, I think you can tell that the flip and header into the ice wasn't even close to the intended result, so it looks like a blood call or a mistake. Given what they've called and not called these playoffs, this feels like an overreaction. But... maybe you can't be so rough when cross checking someone in the chest to clear them out of the circle. Or, maybe the refs are consistent in their inconsistency. I will say that the one feeling I get from these playoffs is the feeling that the players aren't being protected by the refs against really unfair play enough. They seem to be focusing too much on whether possession changes or not, and the stuff away from the puck gets bad enough that overreactions are sort of inevitable. I didn't get a chance to see the whole game. I'll grab a copy. The only reason why I wanted the Sharks to lose is because we may be stuck with their 1st round pick this coming draft.

    playoff game...

Like him or not, he produces. He's a decent player, but not a top tier guy....but man is he clutch in the big games.

    playoff game...

Only time I'll seriously root for the Sharks is in they are playing Nashville, but that includes 29 other teams.
  18. If someone traded a 7th Round Pick for him, they would be grossly overpaying.

    playoff game...

Heh. Just saw that Toronto and Florida are the only two teams who have not won a playoff series in the salary cap era.

    playoff game...

All is right in the hockey world again. I can effectively root against the Boston, Dallas and San Jose. Kinda routing for those spunky upstarts on the Island.
  21. 😂🤣 my bracket is toast! These crazy playoffs....🤷‍♂️
  22. Looks like Max Jones got hurt. Put no weight on his right leg and had to be helped off of the ice.
  23. Up 4-2 w/ 10 minutes left... don't get a cross checking major boys!
  24. hoxxey

    playoff game...

Good game. I am glad the caps are out. Carolina gutted it out. Good coaching. I wish the ducks got a coach like that...
  25. Hate to say it. Maybe the playoffs are more entertaining without the Ducks in them lol.
