I wouldn’t put too much of a knock against the Reign because they lost to the Gulls. The Gulls are a more veteran team and for a lot of the Kings quality prospects, it’s their first pro seasons. Like how we had Terry, Steel, and Jones last year, they have Vilardi, Andersson-Dolan, Bjornfot this year. This is where I follow and defer the guys that get paid to follow and analyze prospects. The prevailing wisdom is that Kings have a good amount of players with the potential to be actual impact players at the NHL level. The Kings can always parlay prospects and excess picks (ie by trading Toffoli) into more NHL ready players. If we are talking about what team is likely to have a brighter future, I think that it would be LA because they have more pieces to work with. Of course it still needs to play out and I hope that they botch it royally.

Nice work, Bob. I want to come down on him for it, but I don't know how much of an effect that attitude has had. Clearly it's helped get some tough RFA deals done at below market prices, but it's hard to say if it's the budget or Murray that's kept bigger UFAs away. Ultimately, I don't think being "unreasonable" is a good thing. It's one thing to be tough, but unreasonable isn't good. One more reason, even if it's a small one, to move on.

This will never happen. But to play along, Ducks have a lot of fans in the Inland Empire that come to the games. They're not driving to south County.
