  1. I attribute that mostly to this team being one of the slower teams in the league and thus far less of the rushes up the ice which make the game more fun to watch. That is not RC's fault but rather he is doing the best he can with the cards he was dealt. For the record, I didn't think they were all that exciting last year either for the most part. Trust me, I am not a Carlyle apologist but if you looked at this roster before the start of the season and said it was going to be an exciting team to watch then you were looking at a different roster than me.
  2. I am certainly not the biggest RC fan but the coach can only do so much with the hand he is dealt. Face it ...... The Ducks have a very unimpressive bottom 6 and if certain members of the top 6 are not contributing in the manner in which they were counted on, then this team has zero chance of success. Those who want to blame Carlyle and his system for the inconsistencies of the team, need to shift at least part of that blame on slumping players. Ritchie: 4 points in last 43 days and 3 of those were against COL and 1 was vs AZ. Rakell: 5 pts and -2 in the last 30 days. 4 of those against COL and BUFF. Not too worried about Raks though. Perry: 4 goals in the last 65 days and 1 was an EN And you can't even say that the Carlyle way is to blame for Perry's demise. He has had numerous opportunities but just does not convert these days like he used to. You cannot even say he is snakebit as has happened in previous Perry slumps when he was clanking shots off of crossbars and posts. This year he's just plain not hitting the back of the net despite numerous great opportunities! That is NOT Carlyle's fault. I said in the beginning of the year that I was not thrilled with this season's team and for success to happen, they were going to need 4 things to occur. 1) Get solid goaltending from Mr Gibson. For the most part, that has happened. 2) Get some scoring from some unexpected sources. This has happened a bit but not enough. Rakell came out on fire but has come down to earth of late. Ritchie looked like he had figured it out after some struggles last season but perhaps the rigors of a brutal NHL schedule is taking a bit of a toll on the big fellas energy. Fowler's points from the blue line have been a nice surprise but that basically makes up for what Sami is NOT giving us as compared to last season. 3) The defense has to come into their own and guys like Bieksa need to show that last year was a feeling out year. That definitely has not happened. Manson will be Manson. Lindholm still looks like he was hurt by coming in late. Theo looks nothing like Theo of last year. Vats has been inconsistent at best. Fowler looks like he has finally become the player many felt he would become and is by far the most reliable D man on the squad. 4) The top players have to perform like the top players. Kesler and #33 have certainly met that expectation. Getzlaf has had a good year, not great but good. I still believe that he is always going to be a pass first player, and that is fine. He is a darn good passer but he needs to find the back of the net around 18 times a year. He is currently well short of that and will be lucky to hit 14. Which brings us to Perry. No need to beat that horse but, well, you know. Who knows.....perhaps all the stars will align and come April the Ducks will get that secondary scoring, get that great goaltending, get that defense on track, get the top guys firing on all cylinders. That's the great thing about sports......you just never know. I just not going to hold my breath waiting. Oh look.....the Sun is coming out.
  3. It is going to be interesting in two summers to see what kind of interest Maroon gets both from the Oilers and the rest of the league. For whatever reason, he has found magic playing with McDavid and is on pace for 34 goals this year. Assuming he plays the full year with #97 in 17-18, he is probably looking at another 30 goal season. One would think that a 30 goal scorer should definitely be making well over his current $1.5 mil but to what extent will his success be attributed to playing alongside the 2nd coming of Wayne Gretzky? My guess is that he will definitely have major value signing with the Oilers but would he be worth $5 mil a year to them? More or less the going rate for a UFA 30 goal scorer who is closing in on 30 yrs of age. Would any other team put him in a similar salary range knowing that his success comes primarily from playing with #97? Mixed into this equation is that The Oil is going to need to back up the Brinks truck to pay Connor and Nurse right around the same time that Patrick goes UFA. Anyway, food for thought.
  4. Picked him up for my fantasy team when I heard earlier today that he was going to be playing with #97. The Bog Dog rewarded me with 3 goals, a +3, 5 SOG and a fighting major for good measure. A bit light in the hit dept. though - a measly 1. Come on Patrick....pick it up.
  5. And the non biased color commentary from Ray Fox...errrrrrrr......Ferraro
  6. Cool, the USA got a nice trophy and Canada got a lovely hors d'oeuvres dish.
  7. You might want to turn the mics off during the trophy skate
  8. You could be right but it looked to me like L.A. tightened up quite a bit after the 1st. I'm guessing Darryl tore into them pretty good between periods.
  9. Total business move, March. There is simply no way that BM could have traded value for value with Freddy.
  10. As armchair GM, I'm allowed to do that. Sorry, shoulda been more clear.
  11. I know that but was factoring in the small market budget thingy. They are not going to spend to the cap.
  12. You mean it's worse? I see a current cap hit at around 58 mil. 13 mil cap space (I figure 8ish knowing that they will never reach the cap.) I also see a ton of forward spots to fill and 2 D spots. Where'd I go wrong?
  13. My feelings exactly. Who knows though...perhaps BM tried to include a few of the albatross contracts but found a brick wall in his way?
  14. Yeah, I heard he wants back in the league. No thanks. How about Dobby?
  15. From where I sit, they still have priority in Rakell and Lindholm. Currently they have about 8 mil to get them signed AAANNNDDDDD to fill about 7 forward spots and possibly 1 D position. Kids, we gotta shed salary somehow and fast or BM's ideas of finding a left shot left wing is probably going to end up being a low-mid tier winger. My guess is we are going to be seeing 3-4 of the youngsters playing big roles this coming season.
  16. Had to happen. There is no way in heck that they could have signed him and expected to remain competitive. Some are complaining that we did not get enough in return but they do not understand that draft picks are quite simply all that the team can afford right now. I said it a few weeks ago after studying the current team cap situation....."this team is in a whole lot of trouble going forward," and today is just the first shoe to drop.
  17. Haha Pat stole the puck after the game tonight and went to throw it in the trash can. Stewie was having none of that.
  18. If I give you a Duck keychain, will that help?
  19. This little one took the trade quite hard. Pat saw this and promised her an Oiler jersey on his twitter.
  20. Goal tonight playing on a line with Draisaitl and Hall.
  21. Yeah and almost killed Simmonds too while sticking up for Hall. Paddy threw him to the ice and Wayne hit his noodle pretty hard and then had the full weight of Patrick landing on him adding injury to injury.
  22. Well, Emerson can't say that he is not getting an opportunity in Van. He is playing on a line with the Sedin Twins. If he can't gather points playing with those guys, he'd better enroll in plumbing school. Follow up: He looks eerily familiar. He jumps into holes and gets to the net at the right time......the puck arrives on his stick .......and denied.
  23. Someone will take him. BM managed to move Wiz last summer. He can certainly move Stoner.
  24. Exactly! They need to dump about 6-7 mil if they want any hope at all of retaining our young D core, Raks as well as possibly Anderson. I'm wondering why BM didn't work harder to move Stoner unless he liked what he saw from him last year in the playoffs where I thought he looked pretty good. My guess is that BM wanted to keep Stoner around for the post season and will be working the phones hard once the summer trade season begins. Kinda surprised that they didn't do more to shed Thompson who at the moment is almost obsolete on this team and 1.6 mil cap hit through next year.
