Taylor Hall is like the anti-Messier. He'll captain your team straight to a lottery win.

Toronto, Chicago, Montreal and New York are all in the mix for 1st overall now. I don't gamble much but I'd feel pretty comfortable placing a bet that one of those teams ends up winning it.

Only in the broken NHL would you see several legitimately bad teams drop to make room for a playoff quality team that hasn't even been determined yet to select first overall. Sorry but everything about this seems sketchy. The process wasn't televised and having a round robin team (or whatever they're calling it) win does nothing but add intrigue for the next process of hockey when it starts up again. Whatever I guess. Welcome to Anaheim generic defensively responsible Swede with limited offensive upside. At least we didn't put up a historically woeful season only to end up getting thrown out the top 3 altogether. I actually feel bad for Detroit and that's not an easy feat.
  4. If any bored Canadians happen to be browsing this thread at the moment, Sportsnet is showing our game 5 classic against the Blackhawks from 2015 in its entirety right now. Even with the way it ended for us I really do think it was the best playoff series of the decade. People remember the Blackhawks-Kings one from 2014 because of how it went down to the wire but the first 5 1/2 games didn't have nearly as much drama. That 2015 series on the other hand was a two week long heart palpitation. Craziest rollercoaster of hockey up until the foundations collapsed at the end.
  5. IIRC it was something crazy like 5 total losses against the 4 teams with the highest win% following the All Star break that year. It's not like they were breezing through the 2012 Coyotes and Devils on their way to a title. I always go back and forth whenever these greatest of all time discussions come up in any sport. Take this bracket for example. On one hand, the 1983 Islanders are likely better than the 2007 Ducks if you keep everything relative to the era and the competition they faced. It gets iffy when you imagine an alternate reality where these teams can somehow actually play each other though. I have a hard time picturing any team from before the dead puck era competing with modern teams. It's not a level playing field. I'm saying this as someone who believes wholeheartedly that Mario Lemieux was the GOAT and the 1977 Canadiens were the best to ever lace them up. The game doesn't get to evolve to where it is now without those teams from the past but today's players have the benefit of better equipment, training, nutrition, coaching, etc. to the point where an average player could probably tear up those past eras. Realistically to me this bracket would come down to the 2010 Blackhawks vs. the 2007 Ducks but even just thinking that seems blasphemous.
  6. Nice to see Josi is still the biggest chicken**** in the league. Best thing I can say about him is how this is the first time he's crosschecked someone in the head without immediately skating behind a linesman or Shea Weber.
  7. Sorry minor league zamboni drivers but this is the best thing to happen this season
  8. Djoos played 22 playoff games for a championship team and the Caps fans I've seen online so far seem to be annoyed by this trade. They think he's an NHL quality defender. Should be an upgrade over Holzer at the very least.
  9. Oof, not a fan of that Sprong trade. Is there anyone left in the organization who's known for their shot now?
  10. We took a player back from them? Better get the disinfectant spray out
  11. Haha wow Lombardi is a deep cut. It's easy to forget the all deadline day dumpster dives over the years that didn't result in food poisoning.
  12. I mean we traded Pettersson to open up a spot for him and he's done nothing but stink up the place this season so why not?
  13. Sonny Milano rhymes with Cogliano Ducks the clear winner here
  14. I thought that was real for a second and was about to take back all my negative thoughts from this month
  15. I'm going to miss the GDT food jokes a lot more than I'll miss Ritchie. End of an era.
  16. Ritchie and Boston seems like a match made in heaven. Won't be long until he's carving Rs Zorro style into Mitch Marner's forehead in the middle of an important playoff game.
  17. Anyone think Henrique goes today?
  18. I understand why the Leafs would want Manson but I have no idea why Vancouver would make a move for Barrie. They have a much better powerplay QB in Hughes and players who can actually defend on the right side. Barrie could use a change of scenery but Vancouver is basically Toronto west. I doubt this happens. I'm okay with any scenario where there's a overpayment for Manson though. He's looked bad since Yawney left honestly.
  19. Getting a RHD back is nice but GMBM is the reason we're so thin there to begin with. I'm not a fan of losing one of our most talented and fun players to address a hole he's responsible for creating with very little to show for it. At least give Sprong Kase's minutes now so the Pettersson deal doesn't look as bad.
  20. So if Dallas goes out and gets Palmieri from New Jersey.. do we cheer for the Stars? I still feel dirty thinking about it but at least nobody on that current roster will try gouging my eyes out over it. Seriously though, Cogliano deserves a Cupliano.
  21. When your backup goalie situation is so bad you allow yourself to add Kyle Clifford to your roster in an effort to secure a deal for one
  22. It's not even the first time he's gone after McDavid and yet somehow he's still "not that type of player!"
  23. Arizona has Tocchet coaching the Pacific. I knew about Silfverberg opting out but I just assumed they'd replace him with another Duck. It's just weird to see a team excluded entirely from it when the league has a history of forcing players from the most undeserving teams to attend simply so everyone is represented. It's a pretty on-brand move by the league considering the cards the Ducks are always dealt. I'll take this over that insane penalty discrepancy we've had since the Pronger days every time though.
  24. It's probably been discussed here but I just realized the Ducks have no all-star representative. On the one hand I always thought the league needed to get rid of that participation medal aspect of the ASG and leave the spots to those who've earned it. On the other hand, the Ducks are the only team being left out entirely and that's a little ridiculous when every other crappy team is still sending someone who shouldn't be there. At the end of the day it doesn't matter at all and I'm sure our players couldn't care less but still, I can't help but feel like it's another subtle act in a long list of disrespect towards our team from this league.
  25. I think the ship has sailed on Nylander. Even though Toronto still needs all the help they can get on defence, he's elevated his play this season to the point where his salary looks almost like a bargain. I think the biggest reason he was rumored was because he held out for a team in dire need of defenders and in turn made the process for extending Matthews and Marner far more complicated. That situation has been resolved plus their defence is somewhat passable when healthy. They're not going to move him now unless it's for something really special. I don't think we have anyone capable of bringing in Nylander outside of Lindholm.
