Now that's top notch reporting!

By the way....this title of the thread is genius! Works on 2 levels!

1) The ONLY July thread....('cause people like to start multiple ones...)

2) The 1st of July thread...

Well done, OP...well done!

Murray's comments after the Vish trade lead me to believe they are comfortable having Sami in the line up this season.

The way Vis played last season, I don't see how Vatanen could be worse lol. Younger, faster, and more motivated, hockey should be his #1 priority unlike Vis who said hockey is no longer his #1 priority. Let's just hope he adjusts well in the NHL.

Jordin Tootoo to Detroit for 3 years @ $1.9 million per. Was hoping he would go somewhere like Florida. Now he'll really get away with everything.

I know it's not exactly what we were hoping for, but at this point I'm pretty satisfied to roll with what we have now and to give Sami his shot a little prematurely (like Fowler did), now that we have some bigger bodies to pair him up with.

I wouldn't call it irony...maybe more of a "happy coincidence" :)

Nothing is wrong...it's perfect! ^_^

Another PRO is that we're not commiting financial suicide so to say.

+Weber is UFA next year, might get traded this year as early as this offseason. I still say they would be in for a Ryan swap if they were surely about to lose Weber as well.

If we sign Souray even as a specialist type if player, id say we have had a decent day. Although, I wanted Tootoo.

Lisa Dillman Ducks closing in on deal with Souray!

Seriously? Wow, can you imagine the size upgrade? Souray + Allen, that'd set a clear message this team isn't gonna take any crap anymore lol.

Thank you, I like this. A big stay at home dman is something Ducks have been missing since Pronger left. Looks like a good deal. Better defense leads to better offense, we've all seen how defense is what wins the Cup still.

My thoughts exactly. All this talk of a 2nd line center, sure it's a need but not nearly as big a need as a solid D.

Is Koivu really not a 2nd line center?

This signing (and the Souray rumor, unless Allen was an either/or signing when it comes to Souray), makes me feel more and more that Vatanen is penciled in to replace Vish.

We have Allen, Lydman, Beauchemin, Sbisa, and Fowler... where is the offense other than Cam? Unless Lydman and his $3MM are on the move to bring in someone like Garrison, or another PMD, I have to assume Sami is a shoe in.

The thing about Vatanen is there is a place for him on the #1 PP since he's a right handed shot and can play opposite of Fowler. Of course, Getzlaf has been playing the point on the PP lately, and Boudreau is comfortable playing a forward on the point as he did it with Ovechkin in Washington. Still, I think Getzlaf is better when he plays off the point on the PP. I'm not sure Boudreau will throw Vatanen on the #1 PP to start the season anyway, and Vatanen needs to have a great camp to make the team, but I do think Sami could grab that spot eventually.

Of course, it depends on any other trades/signings too.

He was, but his output the last few years is definitely at the bottom of the league for 2nd line center.

From Puck Daddy on the Allen signing:

Bryan Allen, moving on from the Carolina Hurricanes to the Anaheim Ducks on a 3-year deal, according to Sportsnet's Dan Murphy. Bob McKenzie has it as a $3.5 million cap hit. Big Allen fans over here underrated defenseman that does well in a shutdown role.

I have a question...does anybody know where Zither & Sojourn are? I'm surprised they aren't posting about the trades....maybe they're on vacation. I'm just surprised that we haven't heard anything from either of them.

I don't think he's a good 2nd line center any more. If you had a really good 3rd center, Koivu would be fine as your 2nd center. But he's not the offensive player he used to be.

I quote you on that. I wouldnt mind see him and Teemu playin the third line. Palmieri and Bobby on the second line. That if Bobby stays.

I'm not surprised at all to hear Murray might be after yet another D-man. It's very like him to add another bottom pairing guy to add some competition, just like he did a couple years ago when we had Sutton, Lilja, Brookbank, etc...

Let's not forget about Matt Clark either.

Bryan Allen, 6'5 220lbs? Wow crazy big, I'm not familiar with him, can anybody shed some light? Does he play big or is he Sutton-big (aka waste of big body space)?

The NHL player stat page says he was a -1 last regular season. Breaking about even on +/- is a good thing, considering he only scored 14 points this season. He was fourth in blocked shots. Sounds like a Toni Lydman kind of player (the healthy Toni Lydman). I'm not saying he's going to finish a season +32, but looks like he is going to be a defensively reliable blueliner.

Not a lot of penalty minutes, but I don't see a 'hits' stat, so if he does do a lot of checking, it's not the kind that will put the Ducks short handed very often.

(Just my interpretation of the stats)

Just listened to Shultz saying how the Oilers were always somewhere in the back of his mind. He's happy to play with the young guys there he says. Boooo to him.

Good point, if Souray actually signs well have a stock of some pretty big D men...Finally!
