Summer Rfa / Ufa Signings Watch

Recommended Posts

Wow, spot on with what so many were speculating. That's a pretty fair $$$ amount and term for Silf, I was hoping we'd get him for a little less but this is fine.

Considering what some key young wingers have gotten, if he scores even close to the clip he was on late last season (not even counting the playoffs, because that was nuts- borderline ppg), this is a great discount, and if he keeps growing it could be a steal. Right this second it looks like a fair deal for a guy who was 4th on the team in scoring and beasted in the playoffs, but still has some proving to do in scoring consistently during the regular season.

Depends on term, really. I have a hard time seeing Silfver's agent signing for less than $3 x 3 (which would take him right up to UFA), and maybe not even that much term. And on BM's side, why should he pay $3m annually and not even snap up some UFA years on a deal when S33 has never cracked 40pts? But if he really did break through late last season, as he appeared to, and continues scoring and playing at that rate/caliber, then he's worth 3m++ as soon as this season; and then if term is short, his next contract in a $5+ range would be due soon. So it's a tricky one for sure. S33's agent isn't going to want to sell him short and seal a long-term deal at what could be a cut rate, but BM is gonna want to get him locked up at a discount while he can because if he does another cheap-ish one-year deal Jakob's value could be significantly higher next summer (when deals for so many RFAs come due and Kesler's raise goes into effect, etc). But they say negotiations are going well, so who knows.

Hagelin I'm more confused about. He's been pretty consistent for a couple years, so his value should be easier to establish, no? Maybe BM's waiting to settle with Silfver (and/or Lindholm?) before locking in term on Hagelin?

It's been a long summer of waiting already. :P

Exactly spot on. Maybe a little overpaid from the 3.3 or 3.5 we were all expecting, but a happier Silfverberg is more important than half a million cap space to be honest. He deserves the money and to have him for 4 years, we might as well take all our high hopes and live with them, it's really not a terrible amount of money for such a player any way you slice it. Maybe the deal is not a 'steal' per se, not a fantastic bargain, but it is fair to both sides and very very accurate, good job, Bob!

Same question as Norge pondered now: what will Hags cost now, about 3.8 to 4.4? He's a consistent 30-35 point procuder, while Silf broke out at 39, he may become the same or maybe a solid 40-point guy. Maybe Bob can leverage this to get Hags for the same money same term? Or more money less term? What do we want with him? Hagelin - Kesler - Silfverberg?

Maybe I should have posted my conspiracy theory earlier.  Woohoo Silf.

Now get Hags signed, and as a bonus Lindholm now instead of next year (for about 5 years or so), and I/we can relax.

We need LIndholm for 5+ He's kinda like Lidstrom, pink glasses yeah, but come on. We can sacrifice Vatanen and even Despres at the same time to keep Lindholm, it's obvious. Big $$$ and maybe even some drama coming up next year.

@AnaheimDucks: At the end of his call, @jsilfverberg33 quipped "never a bad idea to add another Swede" when asked about @CarlHagelin. #swedeheim

Saw a headline today that read "Lindholm signs 2-year extension" and began losing my Garbutts until I realized it was that bizarro Lindholm over in Carolina

I saw an article a few days back about the Gulls signing Roussel. I had to check my gut reaction to throw my phone against the nearest wall. Took a second look at the headline and it was the Gulls add Roussel to the blue line, very clearly not the Roussel.

Self destruction, aborted.

It would almost be worth it just to bury that jerk in the AHL. Almost.

Speaking of the Gulls, just read the game against the Monarchs at Honda Center (freebie), had over 17,000 tickets claimed in 4 days.  Since it's open seating, need to get there early.

Love this and they should do something similar for pre-season games...

Looks like we added some much needed depth and let go some long-in-the-tooth players we all like...but things change.

I Remember when the young guys were using Joe Sacco curved sticks in pick-up at Disney !

New numbers (per Ducks' Twitter):

Santorelli - 25

Stewart - 29

Khudobin - 30

Hasn't Stewart worn 25 for the majority of his career? I wonder if he put off claiming his number long enough for Santorelli to come in and take it first.. It's not even September and he's already getting lazy :P

Maxim Lapierre has signed a 1-year deal with MODO.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. I won't miss seeing him in the NHL this season.

In somewhat related news, Marcel Goc signed a 5-year deal with Adler Mannheim in Germany. September 1: The Exodus of the Defensively Sound Bottom-6 Faceoff Specialists.

Edit: ...who got traded for one another

I hope that's accurate! Sooner the better as far as cost goes; lock him up cheap before he has a chance to improve his point totals or really break out.

Should also be a jump on re-signing his roommate buddy. ;)

If we can get him for less than $2 million per year, that would be great for the budget.

Doesn't sound too out of the question to me. For that length, BM wouldn't be buying out any UFA years. Smells like a tasty bridge deal.

Detroit re-signs Cleary yet again

Part of me wants to point and laugh at the wings for being dumb but the other part of me remembers how he somehow manages to switch from completely useless to all-star calibre whenever he's playing in Anaheim.. Doesn't matter, not like they're making the playoffs this year anyway.

Maybe McGratten will beat him stupid in the AHL. One can dream.

The HF thread on Cleary is pretty entertaining. My favorite being:

"Death, taxes and the Red Wings signing Cleary."

[edit] Hahaha wow, I had no idea he only played 17 games with two, all of two points last season. Hahaha, I can't stop laughing. I know he has a gentlemen's agreement with Holland but heck, just give him an office job at this point.

I'm sure Chelios is somewhere in the Joe waiting for his new contract also.
