minimum cap hit - thinking AHL

3 posts in this topic

So, looking through capfriendly, I see that a lot of AHL roster players have a cap hit of at least $650k, even though as I look through their salary and bonuses, they aren't making that much.

Is the minimum cap hit for every affiliated AHL player $650k?  And does it only apply if they're moved up into the NHL team?

Just trying to figure out the cap hit issue and generally how much the various rookies are getting paid.  They aren't getting paid the $650k in most cases.

If I'm following what you're asking.

Some players are on two way contracts. They get paid X to play in the NHL and Y to play in the AHL.

I think the $650K, is the base for the NHL. And when sent down to the AHL it scales down, significantly. The players are paid by game. Every game is paid out as a percentage of what League they played in.

As an example, Jaycob Megna:

NHL - $1.3M/2 years

AHL - $400,000/2 years

What he makes per game:

NHL - $15,000+

AHL - $5,200+
