Thanks!  If I can, I'll tune in tonight.  Drysdale, Zegras, Perrault - hopefully they'll lift my spirits about this team.

They did for me on Tuesday lol. All of the kids looked fine if not good. I got a bit more excited about Drysdale watching him buzz all over the ice.

Zegras watch back on tonight against the barracuda (Gulls YouTube channel). I really want to see him eventually go up against the Reign and that loaded prospect pool.

get your chipotle bowls ready.

YES!! I want to see that, too!! When is that happening?? That actually could be a very intense and amazing game.

Teemu posted something on Instagram with this same video and “why is this guy not playing with the Ducks? He is Ready.”

I believe the waivers exemption for all the guys that were put on waivers at the start of the season will expire on February 8th. It would make sense if Zegras gets a call-up sometime after that date, since guys like Agozzino and Carrick would require waivers again to go back to the Gulls after Feb 8th, whereas Zegras (and Lundestrom) would be waivers exempt and can move back and forth between the Gulls and the big club at any time. Zegras is getting a lot of paying time with the Gulls right now too, which is a good thing after having his college season cancelled last March. The more hockey for him the better. I just hope that when he is called up that he is put in a position to learn and grow for long term success.

just to reiterate my whining

That is a Barry Sanders style celebration.  Score a touchdown and hand the ball to the official.  No foolish or weird dancing.

This was hilarious.. Z skating silently on the ice ... not a peep in the building then something happens at the net and you just hear ONE guy in the entire building yell out “yahhhh!!” And 2 people clapping. LOL soo funny

It’s nice to see him doing well. I watched a few of his games before his WJC and a few after, and he definitely seemed to have more of an impact in the games following the WJC. Looks like he took something positive from it.

One thing I love is his Determination and passion for the game.

2 assists tonight . Curran with a goal as well. Perrault had an assist. De Leo with a multi point performance . Call the producers up

I saw that they gave Zegras credit for one of De Leo's goals so he actually got his first pro goal, plus two assists. Three points in his regular season debut deserves a golf clap.

Elite 1C now in training.

Nice to see they're going to give him a try at C. However, I don't get why this can't happen with the Ducks. He belongs in the NHL. If they're really that worried about him growing into the position, they should drop him between Rico and Backes on a sheltered 3rd or 4th line and use those guys as training wheels.

This is one I would actually support the Ducks in if it weren't already clear that they're manipulating his contract status.  Center is a totally different animal from a defensive standpoint, and I understand they want to let him do it a few times in the AHL before taking on that responsibility against NHLers. I think it makes sense for a guy this young still getting his feet wet in the NHL.  However, since we do know they're manipulating his service time, it's clear this is just them doing that, and they don't actually believe he needs to go down.

yep exactly.

Getz had an entire season as wing and then moved to C in the NHL. This has nothing to do with developing in the AHL. They could have kept him at wing for the rest of the season and then moved him to C next season.

It makes way more sense like dtsdlaw was saying to have him be on a lower line as C with Backes or Rico on the wing.

I like that he's going down to San Diego where he'll be given max minutes, reps and opportunities. He was being health-bombed and went long stretches during games where Eakins would bench him while playing on the wing. I'd expect more, if not worse sheltering, with him and center in the NHL. At least with the Gulls, he'll have less pressure and more free rein. He hasn't played a pro game at center yet so I am not going to criticize Murray by wanting him to get things right in the AHL first.

Agreed. The Ducks making it known that they were boning him on that makes what I think is a smart long-term move seem more cynical.

oh, i also forgot it's probably better for him to have a better coach like Dineen...so that's a plus!

I'd rather see him get 3rd/4th line minutes with Backes at 5-on-5 and still work on the top PP unit against NHL defenders and goaltenders. Even if he sat for stretches, he'd be sitting with Backes learning the NHL game. That's huge IMO. Seems like a missed opportunity to me.

[Edit] The timing of this only makes sense to me if GMBM is working on adding players to the big club via trade. Rakell hasn't been cleared yet. Steel is on IR. Terry missed the last game with injury. Carrick and Backes were both emergency loans last night. Now Zegras is sent down. Maybe there's more to this...

Getzlaf is also 6'3 and had the build/strength to allow him to transition to the center position more easily, IMO.  Zegras will need to physically mature more and if he's going to get the reps and produce at center in the AHL then maybe they can give him a look at the end of this season and that he'll be ready to step in next year.

Getzlaf was six months older than Zegras when he made his NHL debut in 2005 and was still sent down to the AHL for 17 games that seasons because of the Federov situation and Burke thought it was in the best long-term interest of the team. So, I kind of look at it like that. Get him dialed in at center in the AHL before making the leap.

Maybe he gets a couple games at center near the end of the season if he does well with the Gulls. With Zegras going 9 months without playing competitive hockey because of the pandemic, I just want him playing as many minutes as possible. There's only 17 games left in the season and I think Zegras still needs to develop physically before we can see his full NHL potential, especially now that he's switching over to center. He's actually played in more games than I thought he would at this point.

It's a different league now though. Elias Pettersson couldn't have come right over from Sweden and slotted into the middle in 2005. Pettersson was 19yrs, 325 days and weighed around 161lbs when he did just that in 2018. Zegras turned 20 in March and is about 10+ lbs heavier than Pettersson was. And he's already shown that he can play at the NHL level. I wouldn't have been in favor of keeping Z at the NHL level to learn the center position before the season started, but now that we've seen what he is able to accomplish at the highest level, I don't see any reason for Zegras to go down now.

Pettersson also had played a full pro-season against men in Sweden prior to coming over and was on IR twice during his rookie season. He was undeniably NHL ready from a playing stand point (far more than Zegras is now) but maybe not physically. Last thing I want is for Zegras to get injured and potentially being more prone to being injured going forward because he's not physically ready for the NHL. Right now, I don't think that he is physically ready but when he is then the fun hopefully starts. I agree with you that a 2005 Pettersson would have gotten murdered. Last thing I want is for Zegras to get hurt like this:
